Blood Shed >>>

Hemaphobia
. Yes, this means fear of blood. I learnt something last week during my gathering that there are many people who are fear of blood. I heard stories like people fainted when they saw blood? Are you one of them?

Rather, balenephobia - fear of needles or pins. Many times, it's not because one is not kind hearted or didn't want to donate blood etc, rather they are afraid of needles and pain. Therefore, we still short of blood supply for patients.

Since I posted in Blood Bank department last week, I actually volunteered myself to donate some blood since group O is always in need of blood. Normally, the government blood bank would demand 450 cc of blood from me, but the private hospital that I'm in now, only demanded 300 cc - max. They said that I'm "small" and scared that I would collapse, yea right!

I didn't had enough blood. The blood flow was so slow (almost 30 minutes) that the flow almost stopped at 250 cc. So, I donated these much only. During that 30 minutes of lying down on the bed, I thought of Jesus' shed blood for me.

Imagine, most of us are afraid of needles, and the pain when going through this blood donation process.. and most people are "forced" to donate only when their loved ones, their relatives are admitted into hospitals and are in need of blood supply.

When Jesus was crucified, He was God in the form of man. He could feel pain, like us all. He probably have the same phobia too - fear of blood, fear of needles and fear of pain. Just an extra information, there WASN'T any anesthesia for Him at that time!! The nails that went through His hands and feet were much larger in diameter than our needles now. The needles that poked us now are just itsy-bitsy tiny needle compared to His gigantic nail that went through His flesh, bone and tendon! Ouchhh~~~

But Jesus shed His blood for us and died for our sins even though we were still sinners (Romans 5:8)! He hung on the cross so that our sins are forgiven and we are clothed with His righteousness. He didn't deserve that "punishment" because He did not sin, but He loved us so much and this is the only way we could be redeemed. Therefore, rejoice in the Lord today that we are free from every bondage and curses. We are saved by grace and we are now righteous before God's eyes, He could only see His Son, Jesus in us. And all we need to do is to believe and love everyone in this world because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Be encouraged, be blessed, and feel loved by His complete work on the cross; exclusively for you! Till then, signing OFF

How many of you still remember the horror movie, The Eye??
I don't watch horror movies one, only comedies and good movies like Night At The Museum? =)

I remembered this incident very clearly when I was back in form 4;

Narrator: Tan Sue-Li
Movie Title: The Eye
Location: Makmal Fizik, MGS
Teacher, present? Yes, Pn Muzlifah was discussing some physics question in front of the class.

Sue-Li, who acted to be a "guai" student at that time *shake head disagree-ing* actually DID NOT pay attention during physics lesson =O

Oops! Rahsia terbocor.. What was she doing?? She gathered so many of us at the last bench of the physics lab and.... NARRATED THE WHOLE MOVIE, THE EYE!

I was there listening to her narration on and off, walking to and away from that bench. But it was really horrifying!! Especially with Sue-Li's full-of-facial-expression + body language + special sound effect added uummphh to the story! *thumbs up* But I was s-c-a-r-e-d by her!!

**At Sunway Hospital Medical Lab**

Today after lunch, I managed to get hold of a pathology specimen before it was sent to SJMC for further examinations. I shook the specimen bottle a bit to relocate a "new" position for the specimen, to face me, I mean face the camera. And this specimen is SOMETHING that was cut out from a patient, believing that it's malignant (cancerous)..

and... it is....

an E-Y-E!!!!

can see clearly...?? another one..

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This patient has his left eye ball cut out.. meaning, he has a H-O-L-E on his left eye socket now?? The forever-joker Sue-Li said that now this patient has an extra space to put his things..

For example,

someone: I need an extra coin for parking la, who has extra??
patient: I have! I have!! *take out 50 cents coin from the eye socket*

eewww, gross~~ i know!!

Next, I wanna know what comes to your mind, or rather what do you think it is when you first look at the following picture k??

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Btw, its actually an uric acid molecule in a gout patient

I've asked Sue-li, Ee Von, See Ting, Sher Ri, Chin Yong and Wee Ming.. everyone gave me similar answers except for Sher Ri (she thinks just like me!! Yeah~).

DO LET US KNOW WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS WHEN YOU FIRST SEE IT
, by adding to the "... said something. What bout you?" link at the end of this post please.

Why? Because we are all curious and those people I asked (Sher Ri, Ee Von and Sue-li they all) do check my blog almost daily, they too wanna know what's your answer to see if you think like us or not.

Answers so far:

Mun Khea: Some sort of galaxy (couldnt think of the word, what I meant was solar system).. or those atomic nucleus thingy..

Sue-Li: a fly!!!

Ee Von:
A mosquitoe!!

Sher Ri:
some nucleus thingy.. (did you mention star or something like that also, Sher?? Cant remember la)

See Ting:
A fly...

Chin Yong:
Mosquitoe?

Wee Ming:
Not sure what la.. but its some insects..

Are we right?? Sher and Mun or Sue-Li and gang betul??? Let us know your answer k! Again, please don't give your answer thru the taggy. The link below this post please. Thank You.

Superbly tired now. Had a g-r-e-a-t day! Laughed still stomach cramp! Special thanks to Sher Ri and Sue-Li for dinner and tong sui respectively!!

YUMMY =)

Just now, a bunch of friends from Monash University came down to Klang, craving for bah kut teh. This week, Sharon and Amelia Lee actually stayed back to have dinner with us (something unusual) and I told them that I'm not joining the youth for dinner because I have appointment with my uni friends. They gave me a quite-dissapointed look. Don't know they were real or not, doubted, probably happy? I somehow felt guilty la, so I offered to fetch them to kampung (the youth wanted to eat there at first) and teman them for a while till my friends reach Klang.

Mana tau when we reached kampung, I was told that they've changed the location to Jeth's Ice in Bt Tinggi and that's really far as my appointment place with my friend is in Taman Rashna (travelling from Bandar Baru Klang). With the slow-moving traffic on Saturday nites, I was undecided whether to join them or not. And Sharon taught me how FFK my uni friends just suggested that I should just join the youth for makan lor instead. Actually, it wasn't a too bad thing cause if I were to drive back from Bt Tinggi, my friends would have finished eating by then. So, I stayed with Sharon's decision. See, Sharon! How much I sayang you??!

I remembered that I've to fetch Sue-li and Eevon back also, along with the guilt that creeps in me for not joining them (Junie and gang), I went to pick them up and brought them for tong sui in Bandar Baru Klang. The desserts there are quite good, you should try!

Here are some photos of the desserts,

Mad science students, flour attack!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
S-T-D positive!
By the way, STD does not stand for "standard". It's the short for SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE. whoah! I can see all the kepoh-ness start to terselah dy! Don't worry, I'm not blogging bout myself having STD or anything. Not here to announce this.. hehe.
Well, today I had a cut on my finger when I was bathing. A piece of epithelial tissue just came off actually. I've measured, the missing piece of epithelial tissue was 1 mm wide and 5 mm long. Ouch! It hurts. Anyway, I've sterilized it and no bacteria could attack and should grow on it.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Saw that cut? If exposed, bacteria should double in number every 20 minutes. And if its not properly cleaned with disinfectant or things like that, the bacteria can take over you!
Anyway, wanted to share something I found out in my lab yesterday. There was this sample (a swab actually) sent in to the Medical Micro department wanting to check out for Neisseria gonorrhea (gonococci, a kind of bacteria). Remember? Bacteria could multiply, double themselves every 20 minutes if their activities aren't inhibited. For me its a new case, I mean this case is not commonly handed, I haven't done it before also.. and this guy actually requested for this test. So, we prepared the slides and looked under the microscope as well as culturing them on the agar plate. My friend and I stayed in the micro room while my supervisor went to check under the microscope (usually negative case, so we weren't so bothered also). After a while, my supervisor ran in to the room where we were in and
guess what!? We FOUND gonococci!!! My friend and I went and examine it, and its TRUE!!
We were told that gonococci is a bacteria that present only in SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE. Meaning, that guy could (high probability) have been a little bit naughty before this.. don't know where he visited.. Petaling Street maybe? There was once when A. Janie brought Aivy and I to get christmas party stuff at the Petaling Street.. and Aivy showed me those people.. yeeww~
But one thing really confused us in the lab, these bacteria always invades the urethra part. So, to get the thing, we gotta insert a small wired loop through the penis and its a really very superbly terrifying painful process, I heard. But this guy's sample was gotten as a swab?? So big (size of a cotton bud)!! How could it get through the small opening at the penis?? *weird*
Then only my supervisor mentioned that this guy surely suspected this dy.. cause this bacteria would cause the discharge to be ever-flowing all the way from the penis gland. EVER-FLOWING you know!! Meaning, non stop! So guys, if any of you have been "naughty" and you see some fluid always flowing and never stop, quick go consult the doctor to get jabs. Very cheap only. RM 60 for each jabs, and you need three jabs to kill all these "naughty" bacteria and you need to rest for three days. That's all =P and then you can naughty back if you want to.... AT YOUR OWN RISK. LOL
Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan
I was reading Amelia's previous posts in her blogs actually, till I came across this name "Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan" when she quoted him on some time management thingy. This name appeared so familiar to me and guess what, I've been working WITH HIM in my medical micro lab!! He actually majored in microbiology before he became a medical doctor. Don't believe? I show you.. actually purposely took this picture to show Amelia.. ahaha.. to prove to her.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
He's a humble man I should say. He was a former runner, represented Malaysia up till semi-finals for Olympic game. Because of his achievement, he was given the datuk-ship. Along with his qualification as a medical doctor, he served as a minister in the Health Ministry and he's currently the Deputy President of the Malaysia's Olympic Council. He's 63 years old now and he works part time in some hospitals and universities to give lectures, and Sunway Medical Centre is a part of it. Am proud to be there! =)
I'm sleepy already. Good nite. Klar, till then, signing OFF
You're A Year Older, YAP WAN CHIN!!
DOB: 16th January 1986
Steamboat Delight Restaurant, KLANG, 16 January 2007 - It was reported that this incident happens really rarely, I mean only happened ONCE in this young girl's life.. A gentle and sweet girl by the name of Yap Wan Chin was declared by the sun and the moon, the stars and the sands and everything else on the earth that she's finally a complete adult, yes, adult!!
OMG, SHE HAS TURNED 21!
Before this, people just didn't know where to put us and to consider us as.. we're not an adult but also not a child. Our identity is confused, we just don't know what we are and so, since that was the only time in our lives when we have the word "TEEN" behind our AGERS... therefore we are simply called the "TEENagers".. what a word! We're as confused as Britney Spears when she sung the song, "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman". I now finally understand how she feels! If Britney was to read this blog, she'll surely feel relieved.. *think too much* So much of Britney, by the way, I'm not a fan of Britney. Not at all!
"Welcome to the adulthood!" exclaimed those borned before 16th January 1986
and us who aren't there yet, we're trailing from behind.. its just the matter of time. Soon, yes, SOON we'll all be there!
Wan Chin spent us porridge steamboat (see, good girl like her wanna spend us also must spend on healthy food) on her birthday. 2 tables and it was really a good time together, I'm serious. Laughters and loud voices (all very cho-lo la, talked so loud) surround the entire restaurant. Met many old friends that I hadn't met since FORM 5!! About 3 years?! The food and fellowship was great. Ate, talked, posed for pictures till around 10pm and then we adjourned and continued our stories at the ESSO mamak in Teluk Pulai. We bought Wan Chin a cake and the expected birthday protocols proceeded in the mamak. Some of us (includes myself) left the place earlier, slightly past 11pm as I need to work the following day, another reason would be "good girl" like me also has curfew (right, Sue-Li?) I could see Amelia nodding her head with a smile as she reads this, in agreement to what I've said (Mun: thank you thank you *bow bow*).
Here are some pictures taken:
Happy Birthday, Wan Chin!!
By the way, Cheng Cheng has just had her hair done recently and its a brand new image.. it looks not bad on her I must say, Sue-li told me that she could see Cheng has lost lots of weight but I still haven't got myself 100% used to her new image yet, probably after yearrrrrrrrsssssss of straighthen hair. She rather gave Eevon and I a shock when we first saw her walking into the restaurant that nite. Probably I should change my image too.. forever the same old me. Don't blame me, blame the hair! It can't grow!! Don't believe?? Ask people around me! I haven't been cutting the length! Sighs.
Whoops! Back to the topic.. So, Eevon and I had the same thinking, we felt that she looks like an actress.. an actress that everyone loves because of her cuteness.. Cheng may not look like that actress to you, I don't know.. Have a look at the picture yourself, and you'll be the judge! =P
Sue-Li: so same man!!!!!!!!! I tot I saw wrongly!!!!
Mun: simply awesome..
What bout you? Let us know and your vote counts! =) Even if you don't know who she is (I doubt you don't know her, she's famous la), just let us know if they are alike or not, just to resuscitate this blog slightly. Thanks heaps!!
Hello readers, do you know that there's a STARBUCKS COFFEE in Sunway Medical Centre?! Whoa!!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Anyway, updates:
Week 1 (Haematomology)
Not much work for me, bored bored bored!! The manager of the medical lab came looking for me, he wanted to let me run a project on my own and then do some statistics with the results for him. I was rather excited since there was at least something for me to do before I rot in the medical lab. He went to collect some samples for me to run the project but unfortunately, there were some technical problem somewhere and there weren't enough samples to run the project YET and thus, the project was postponed! =(
Around 10am, the manager needed my help with computer, like preparing lecture slides for the staffs and any sort of computer work. I have an office all to myself with a comfy reclining chair.. ahhhhhh~ =) Thank God! At least, I have something to do.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Don't know how it came around, but Mr Edwin Tan (the manager) regards me as the "computer pro" (the exact word used by him, but it's NOT true, I know just as much as you all only) in the lab. I just helped with what I can.. and guess what, God's favour was really upon me. Mr Edwin and his assistant see me as a capable and a very potential employee (that's what he said) and they already asked me to work with them once I graduate from my degree. Meaning, I've ALREADY got a job waiting for me eventhough I haven't graduate!! Praise God! God works miracles! We just need to shine His lights.. anywhere, whether in school or in work place. Be encouraged and be blessed because you too can!
Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know Who holds tomorrow
And I know He holds my hand
(I know Who Holds Tomorrow by Ira Stanphill)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Week 2 (Medical Microbiology)

It has been another exciting week! I simply enjoyed medical microbiology, probably because there were more work for me to do, with a nice supervisor that entrusted me a lot; allowing me to do most of the work!

For my internship, I've to "hop" from one department to another to experience and learn as much as I could. For the entire of last week, I was placed in Medical Microbiology department. Meaning, I'll deal with specimens gotten from the patients in the form of swabs, blood, urine, sputum or even stool (in layman term, stool = shit/sai)!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Yes, these are the stools collected.. gross~ I know! =P

As a medical microbiologist, we will culture all these specimen onto several different agar plates..yes, made out of 'jellies' with added nutrient as medium to grow the pathogens (disease-causing bacteria) that are present in the specimen.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The different agar plates for bacteria culturing

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
MK at work! =P

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
was observing this culture la.. haiyo.. its some bacteria growing on the blood agar

An experienced microbiologist like Mr. Tan (my supervisor) could identify the bacteria's species just by looking at the morphology of the colonies (in this case, those yellow stuff on the blood agar).

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Mr Tan, the person in-charged of medical microbiology. Retired man, on contract with Sunway Medical with 30 years experience as lab manager in Selangor Medical Centre.

An unexperience "microbiologist" like me will need to do Gram's staining and look through the microscope to identify the pathogens.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The bacteria (purple-coloured rod) through the microscope after the Gram's staining

We will also work on their sensitivity and to find out which antibiotic could inhibit the bacteria's activity so that the doctors will know which antibiotic is effective for their patients.

Most samples were asked to run for High Vaginal Swab (HVS) for womens'.. , sputum to check for TB, urine for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and stools for rotavirus (virus that attacks mainly children and cause them to have diarrhoea).

The samples were sent to the medical laboratory (in LG) in a very hightech way.. where kampung people like me will be amazed. Have you ever heard of fairy tales like a bird delivers you when you're a baby to your home?? Um, I mean storks.. yes, storks!
Now, the samples were sent to the medical lab just as tho' there are some "storks" delivering them since these samples could be from 2nd floor, 3rd right up to the 6th floor, the ICU! I just don't know how those samples move through the "gutters" along the ceiling ke apa.. Imagine the samples "travels" from the 6th floor to lower ground.. I don't understand how.. and then upon their arrival, there'll be some sound as though to let us know, "you've got male mail!!" Let me show you the thingy..

The sample drops right in here, of course with shock absorbance!

Chun eh? Right...

Oh yea! When I was washing my hands on Friday, some senior supervisor approached me and she asked..

Sapiah: So, are you doing double degree also?
Mun: Yea =)
Sapiah: Which double degree you chose?
Mun: Medical Bioscience and Biotechnology
Sapiah: Oh.. are you.. local??
Mun: (What does she mean by am not local? Meaning not outstation like Malacca all?) Yes, I am. I'm from Klang.
Sapiah: Oh? Really?? I thought you're a foreigner.. I mean, not from the looks.. cause chinese
all looks the same.. but I thought you could be a singaporean or a korean.. sorry ah, cause the way you spoke your english, you're very fluent.
Mun: Oh? Thanks. =) (*swt* dun sound like a Malaysian?? huh????)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Week 3 (Clinical Chemistry)
This week am randomly assigned among ourselves to help in the Clinical Chemistry department. However, in this department mainly all the samples are operated by machines that costs over millions! We're aren't really allowed to operate it as they are really really important, cannot afford for mistakes! So, untrained students like us have to watch and learn the theory behind it only lor.. what to do. We're only allowed to deal with G6PD - a kind of genetic disorder.. blood clotting deficiency. Another would be the VDRL.
I was there with a partner this time, Shing Ying. Since there wasn't much to do, I went back to disturb at the Medical Microbiology department. Joeanne is placed there for this week. Apparently, she didn't really understand Mr Tan's explainations and she doesn't know how to do and all (at that time la, should be pro in no time I supposed). I stayed there to help and teach her, Mr Tan allowed and I guess he was glad. So, there I was as his 'assistant' to guide Joeanne in Medical Microbiology. It's fun!! =)
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Joeanne and I
Mr Tan and I. Isn't he cute??
And today when we (Vivian, Joeanne, Mr Tan and I) were chatting happily in the room when there was no sample, Boon Chin, a guy that works in the lab too came in to talk to Mr Tan. This time this guy asked me,
Boon Chin: Are you local??
Mun: (again??!) Yes, I am =)
Boon Chin: But you're not a pure chinese right? A mixed?
Mun: (shocked). Haha.. I'm a chinese, just couldnt speak chinese (swt again! argh! sigh! I don't look PURE chinese meh? Then?? chinese mix dengan apa???? *swt* =/ )
Then once a while I'll leave the micro room to check around.. and there my friends made me take interesting pictures through the microscopes. Here they are, enjoy!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is the cystic fluid sample obtained from the lungs. There are red blood cells present in this fluid and you can see them (click on the picture to enlarge), those in disc-like shape. Those with "flowery" and are irregular in shape.. those are the red blood cells that have already undergo crenation. Ring any bell?? RBC in hypertonic solution? Osmosis??
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
And this is the picture of sperms under the microscope! It's from the seminal fluid. Again, click on the picture to enlarge it. Cool eh? Wanted to take a video of it and then post it here. But then, the video function in my digicam can't zoom and thus, can't take. Too tiny.. and the sperms were quite dead dy.. 5 hours..
Pictures taken from the fluid department.
So, anyone now interested to take up or switch course to Medical Science?? LOL. Leave a comment!
BLESSED 19th BIRTHDAY, GIDEON YEOH!
DOB: 11th January 1988
I don't know how many of you remember how many birthday parties or even the birthday celebrations we had in youth.. I can safely say that most of these birthday celebrations (tho' not all) were initiated by Gideon.
Honestly, am really proud to see his enthusiasm and passion for the youth and for Christ. When we make a stand saying, "yes, I wanna serve you, Lord!", Does that means we must only be in the worship team so that we can serve Him? The answer is no. The meaning of serving God become real when we start to serve man. I'm not trying to say that we should be enslaved to every man or mad science students like us love to come out with funny equations like this but this is UNACCEPTABLE:
serve God = serve man ---(1)
(1) divides by "serve"
serve God = serve man
God = man
Therefore,
man = God?
Its a big NONO!! Man are NOT in the same rank as God, NEVER will be.. but in reality, God wants us to serve man.. serve others and that's one of the way to serve Him, to please Him with our actions. Jesus came to serve and didn't come to be served! Before He left, He decided to wash His disciples' feet and He didn't want His feet to be washed by His disciples. Even Simon Peter didn't understand that part! He was like.. Huh? You?? You wanna wash my feet?? Yeah rite! I don't dare oh let you wash..You're my sifu you know! People sure laugh at me one.. let sifu wash the tou-tai's feet (contemporary version). Jesus replied Peter, "The Son of Man is here to serve and not to be served". So, we, the followers of Jesus Christ should follow His footstep.. here to serve others and not to be served. And here, our Gideon has shown his passion in serving His people. This is what am proud of!
Yesterday, we all celebrated his birthday in Station 1. So cute to see his reaction, I guess he was shy, wasn't he?? LOL. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BROTHER! Continue to shine for Him yea!
BLESSED 21st BIRTHDAY, TAN SHI YAN!!!!
DOB: 6th January 1986
I've got to know Shi Yan for almost 2 years now.. around 23 months since I first met her in Monash University orientation day on February 2005. Remembered how she claimed that she knew me. Huh?? Know me?? *one-eye brow up* That was my response at that time..
Rupa-rupanya that dalang TAN SUE-LI ada cakap dengan Ee Von pasal I semasa dia orang kat MUFY.. adalah dia orang sebut nama saya dengan orang lain macam Khoo Sher Ri, Tan See Ting dan sebagainya.. Oleh itu, itu Tan Shi Yan pun tahu siapa I lor.. mengumpat pasal kita orang kot..
I remembered offering Ee Von a lift home after uni one of the early days in uni and she asked if I could give Shi Yan a lift as well or not.. I was like, "okay, sure.. where does she stay?" And to my surprise, she's also from KLANG!! (all hail klang-ites!). A typical follow-on question when you found out that someone you know is from the same kampung as you, so I asked, "Oh really?? Which part of Klang do you live in??" And do you know what was her answer?? TAMAN SRI ANDALAS! There's where yours truly is living in also! What a small world.. *tsk tsk*
More surprises were added when Shi Yan said that she saw me before and know who I am since we were from the same BM and add maths tuition that we attended in form 5.. thanks to Grace Tay (our excellent BM teacher) and Mr Low (our add maths teacher) who loves calling my name in front of the whole class and some other MGSians' name.. and that makes us so "known" in the class. What a way to be known.. hrrmmmm.. Shi Yan attended Sunita's tuition and that's when she knows Sue-li sekalian and she was the TOP student in Convent school. So popular because of her scores and everyone knows her existence except for the katak-di-bawah-tempurung Mun Khea la..
There was one incident when she came to MGS representing Convent school for inter-school chemistry quiz and I remembered Sue-Li came telling me.. "eh Mun Khea, Shi Yan also came eh.." and I was like, "Who is Shi Yan?".. "Neh.. that girl there" *pointing pointing at Shi Yan* but I still could not get who.. Hrrmmm.. And being a prefect at that time, I was patrolling near the washroom when Shi Yan and Cindy (her partner from Convent school) came out of the toilet.. Shi Yan smiled at me wanting to say Hi but I didn't even notice since I don't know her.. I went and talked to Cindy (met Cindy several times in several quizzes that I represented school in.. always competing with her.. MGS-Convent ma) but we're still friends.. no hard feelings. Shi Yan was dissapointed with my response at that time, she told me this 2 years later.. ahhaha..
Ahem, so now I know who you are, Tan Shi Yan! We carpool-ed or rather I fetch her to uni almost everyday along with Sue-Li for almost 2 years dy.. Had lots of laughter together, fun and good memories.. Thanks for being my friend!
This year is her 21st Birthday.. on the 6th Jan (didn't post yet till now, lazy) and she gave us "wedding banquet" (according to Jackie Teng) at her place. Here are some pictures taken:
Do You Know How To Say NO?
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Countless time in church, I always hear Ryan (Unc Raymond’s son) use the word “no”. It’s actually a real good practice. As in, I remember disturbing Ryan like this:
Mun: Ryan, what are you holding in your hands?
Ryan: bis---cuits *smiles*
Mun: Can you give some to Cheryl?
Ryan: No!
Mun: Give her some la.. she wants.. after she cry how?
Ryan: No!
(Clarisse came by, saw some food)
Clarisse: Ryan, I want!
Ryan: No!
(Clarisse trying to grab from Ryan. Ryan turn away, holding his packet of bis----cuit)
Ryan: No!
Mun: Must share share ma..
Ryan: No!
If there’s such thing as computing the frequency of each words used, out of Ryan’s speech vocabulary bank, probably the word “no” is his most frequent word used! This is typical of a child. As innocent as they are, they have the sinful nature in them for being selfish, not because they learnt to be bad and wanna sin, but the sin is already borned in the blood! This is the sin that was passed down from Abraham to his decendents.
When Abraham first sinned, we, being his decendents are also called sinners because we’re all borned of his blood. In Romans 5:12, it says, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned..” and continue in Romans 5:19, “For just as through disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man the many wll be made righteous.” But because Jesus died for us, we are all made righteous. Not by our good works, but by grace, the undeserved favour in our lives, a salvation that we cannot boast about.
However, sometimes we need a little bit of Ryan in our lives. I’m not trying to say we all should be selfish but we should learn how to say “NO”. I wonder how many of your moms taught you how to say “no” to strangers? My mom does! She always reminds me that when I was little. When we don’t know how to say “no”, many consequences will come along.
That day Fang Yi was just telling me that he doesnt know how to say "no" to people.. I know that are more people outside facing the same situation, maybe even you who are reading this now.. agree? *head nodding* As long as I know Jolyn, whenever you try to ask favour from her, she will say “ok.. anything la.. I don’t mind one”. Are all these the too-kind-hearted-ppl? Well this species is going to extinction soon and thus, I guess we need to start preserving them. LOL.
Anyway, in many cases that I know of, its actually NOT easy to say no. Myself is a case on its own! I always have the same problem of not knowing how to say “no” to people. Whenever someone asked me to do something, I will automatically say “okay!” eventhough I’m busy. Probably just need to sacrifice some sleep, time and energy.. that one only what.. saying “no” is more difficult!
Whenever one needs my transport, even if its quite out of the way or taking up an extra hour of rest at home, I’ll still usually say “okay” unless am really in a rush or doing something urgently. I wont say “no”
Or one that needs help with studies or computing work or just anything, its really hard to say “no” actually. But folks, don't get me wrong here. I really LOVE and ENJOY doing all these favours. I don’t mind. I LOVE doing them!! I find that its an HONOUR for me!! =) Really one! No jia jia!! =P Only that, sometimes mom makes lots of noises. So, still learning and trying to practice ONLY IF I really need.. but.. sighs..
Yesterday night grandma called me, she said she was charged so much extra for her water bill when the meter reading printed in the water bill doesn’t even correlates with the water meter reading in her house. She needs my favour to make a complain to the officer this morning since both grandpa and grandma couldn’t speak fluently to them. The officers wouldn’t believe them, they said. Mom knows that am tired and grandparents love to run errands maybe at 8am?? which means I gotta wake up extra early again though am off for that day. But whenever grandma calls, the impulse of the favour asked does not even need to travel through the afferent nerves then to spinal cord only to my cerebrum before the impulse travels back through the efferent nerves to my mouth to say "okay" or "sorry, i can't".. its so much like a spontaneous reaction when the impulse of the favour asked travels straight to the efferent nerves and to mouth saying "okay!" Its an auto-response-thingy especially to grandma, don't ask me why! So, I took a picture of the water meter and showed it to the officer as a prove, and explained to him bout the error. In the end, the officer decided to waive grandparents’ bill and they NEED NOT PAY even a cent since they were over-charged. God’s favour! *thumbs up!!*
After that, we went to get some things around Teluk Pulai area and then back to grandparents’ house. Lazed there till mom picks me from their place at 1pm after picking Mun Sheung from school. Grandma was too happy because the bill was waived thanks to my help and thus, she said grandpa gotta belanja me, lunch at least! She bought some bak kut teh back for lunch but I didn’t want to eat there since I promised mom to be back home for lunch. I know if I don’t, I’ll be in trouble. But grandma insisted till I can’t say no also. She called mom, mom made noise in the phone.
Here's the conversation:
Grandma: Hello, Angie (my mom) ah.. Just to let you know, Mun is having her lunch in my place. Bring Sheung along and have her lunch too here k, I bought bah kut teh.
Mom: No no, Mun can't have her lunch there. She promised me to be back for lunch.
Grandma: We’re eating lunch soon already, I insist and she’s gonna be here.
Mom: NO, I don’t care. Mun is coming back for lunch!
Grandma: I also don’t care. Mun is at my place now and I can do what I want. She’s having her lunch here! *hang up the phone*
P/s: the whole conversation was in cantonese, translated to english
So, the consequences of not knowing how to say no (I DID say no actually, but grandma’s insist was stronger =/ ), I took my lunch TWICE!! *swt* Sighs. Couldn’t even move ah! Ate abit of both meals.. too much for the day!!
So folks, learn your little "no" word today for certain situations so that you won't fall into "unforeseen circumstances". Something to say? Leave a comment!! Be blessed!
On 31st of December 2006, I was with Fang Yi, Sharon Teoh and Jolene Teoh in Baskin Robbins. The queue was so loooooooooooooooong that I had some time to kill, so I decided to disturb Sharon Lee via sms. In one of the sms-es la.. she said something like this (not the exact sms here, coz I deleted dy)
Actually didn't want to include myself in there.. thought of cutting their pic out separately, but to think bout it if i do, its so much like a "In Loving Memory of.. " punya picture hor? So.. I guess it wasn't a good idea after all.. =/
I was text messaging with Amelia just now.. and I was just pulling her legs la. By the way, those of you who hadn't read her blog, she asked for our favour to pray for her journey mercy so that she could come back here safely. Then she semangatly text-messaged me, here is how it goes:
Amy: ahaha! joker. u read my post d anot? saw your name in my post anot? haha.
Mun: Ahem! Duwan pray. Stay in China and get married there k! Haha! I'll fly ****** over for you! Haha! Oops, should it be *****? Paiseh! Both la! Then u wont be so bored!
(If any of you try to count how many asterisks are there to find out the names, don't waste your time and effort and your counting skills.. simply put number of asterisks, not the exact ones). So, after this message, I told her that I'm in the mood to tell stories.. my imagination went wild.. and so, should I blog a story? Okay.. here's the story..
Once upon a time (typical way of starting a story, but it works! =P), there live a girl named Amelia (I know its L-A-M-E-! but let me finish it k?). Amelia, being a good student in a "good" school (MGS boleh!!) *ahem* somehow decided to skip school for a week to go for a holiday in China. Unexpectedly, when she stepped in to a village the penghulu's son fell in love with Amelia at the first sight.. (everyone: aawwwww~~~~)
His name is Ah Keong. Ah Keong is the only heir in that family and thus, tho' he was already 16 years old, he is always pampered by his father. When he asked of a bread from the father, his father will not give him a stone and when he asked of a fish, his father will not give him a snake.. (oops, terpesong abit). Just to exaggerate, Ah Keong stammed his feet and told these to his dad,
Ah Keong: Daddy, I don't care~ I want that pretty lady over there to be my wife!! *pointing at Amelia* The wind told me just now that we're predestined to be together..
Dad: okay, son. I'll try my best
Ah Keong: *clap hands* thanks daddy! you're the best!! *give daddy a peck on the cheek*
The black crows from China heard the news.. so they flew back to Malaysia to tell Abu and Ali who happens to like Amelia too. Abu being an okay-swimmer, quite muscular (without the 6-packs) decided to swim to China to save Amelia.. As for Ali, he's the heir of some shipping company. He's RICH!! His chance of getting to China fast is a "sub sub water" thingy! However, Ali has got his stand! He doesn't want to be fully dependent on his father to ship him there, he wants to prove that he's not a tai siu yeh. So, he only borrowed a couple of hundred ringgit to buy logs. He wants to make a rakit on his own to reach China.
One swimming very hard (with oxygen tank and swimming trunks), another rakit-ing.. Abu started his swimming journey much earlier since Ali needs time to build his own rakit. However, they both reached almost the same time.. and about 5 km away from China.. a HUGE fish [just like Jonah's big fish] came by and gobbled them up, swallowed both Abu and Ali.
Abu and Ali never liked each other because they are both after the same girl. Whenever Amelia chats with one, the other will get jealous and vice versa. But in the stomach of the big fish, no one found out why but both Abu and Ali became best of friends!! They thought of ways together wanting to escape from the stomach. On the 3rd day, Abu and Ali tickled the fish with all their might and they were thrown out.. straight to the village where Amelia was! **Superman returns' song as background music**
Abu and Ali managed to rescue Amelia from that place and they left back for Malaysia. Abu and Ali enjoyed each other's companion and they both play football together, leaving Amelia to play with her barbie dolls. Occasionally, Abu accompanies Amelia to play Barbie (actually not accompany, he loves Barbie). And they lived happy-ever-after!
-the end-
I know its super L-A-M-E! What to do.. once a while lor. Its 4am already.. don't know what I'm typing also. Travel safely, the Lee(s)!! And don't get married there.. come back fast!!
