More Chewing Gum Please!

I just came back from an ICU workshop sponsored by Nestle Nutrition along with other doctors and surgeons from all over Malaysia. An awesome lecturer (Prof. Robert Martindale) was flew in from the States to give us this CME (Continuous Medical Education) in Sunway Resort Hotel.

One of the many things that I learned there (and amazes me) is that...

...GUM CHEWING CAN HELP TO REGULATE BOWEL MOVEMENT! (haha i know this is a good news to most of you)

Omg, I didn't know that!

Anyway, it was a good time there (2D1N). Get to spend more time and know more bout my new crazy colleague, Amanda :)

Emptied & Broken.

We need to be broken before Him, before He can mend us.
We need to be empty, only so then He can fill us again.

If we're already so full of ourselves, how else do you want Him to fill you? How else do you want Him to move in you? There isn't any more space for Him to do anything. For example, if a glass is half-filled with water, it can still be filled with a little bit more of water. If a glass is empty, it can be filled with even much more! If the glass is already full, how else can it be filled? It is already full!

It is when one is so full of himself, everything will be about that person. There will always be "I" everywhere and how can God be in the picture?

But if only we allow ourselves to be emptied to be filled again (be filled is a continuous action), then the Almighty can do greater things in us and through us!

I need to be emptied, I need to be broken. Holy Spirit, take Your rightful place! :)

He's Changing Me, One Step At A Time.

I was rather troubled just now. I was all alone and this thought came to me and said,

"You're not filled with the Holy Spirit because if you do, why aren't you joyous now and at all time? Why aren't you all loving? You're not showing the fruit of the Spirits and if you have this Holy Spirit with you, you'll automatically show the fruit of the spirit"

To be truthful, I was very convicted. And I started doubting. I'm not sure if its the devil throwing thoughts to me again to shake my faith and doubt and create more inferiority complexes in me, or is it true that I'm not filled with the Holy Spirit? But what were all those promptings? Wasn't it the Holy Spirit who touched me just now when I sung "Here In My Life"? Wasn't He who was so real throughout the whole prayer meeting just now? Wasn't I speaking in tongues? Were all these things coincidences or were they real?

I'm confused, really. I decided to ask Amelia and her reply was that not always the devil and there could be a problem lying somewhere. Frankly speaking, I was yearning for the answer. At least I really wanna know the source and I really hope that she could diagnose me and pull be back to the track, but she said I'll know the best. The answer is, I really don't know. I was really troubled, like really.

Until I mentioned this thing to Whay Ying over the MSN conversation and she asked how would I know and why do I think this way. I wanted to show her what are the fruit of the Spirits to explain why this thought came to me, so I decided to search for the scripture in my bible. I knew it was somewhere in Galatian but not sure which chapter or verse and guess what? The prompting came again and asked me to read Galatian 5 and my eye was shown straight to verse 4 onwards that says,

4. And if you try to please God by obeying the Law, you have cut yourself off from Christ and his wonderful kindness

5. But the Spirit makes us sure that God will accept us because of our faith in Christ

6. If you are a follower of Christ Jesus, it makes no differences whether you are circumcised or not. All that matters is your faith that makes you love others

7. you were doing so well until someone made you turn from the truth

8. and that person was certainly not sent by the one who chose you

9. a little yeast can change a whole batch of dough,

10. but you belong to the Lord. That makes me certain that you will do what i say, instead of what someone else tells you to do. Whoever is causing trouble for you will be punish

12. i wish that everyone who is upsetting you would not only get circumcised, but would be cut off much more!

13. My friends, you were chosen to be free. So dont use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love

14. All that the Law says can be summed up in the command to love others as much as you love yourself.

15. But if you keep attacking each other like wild animals, you had better watch out or you will destroy yourself

16. If you are guided by the Spirit, you won't obey your selfish desires.

17. The Spirit and your desires are enemies of each other. They are always fighting each other and keeping you from doing what you feel you should.

18. But if you obey the Spirit, the Law of Moses has no control over you.

19. People's desires make them give in to immoral ways, filthy thoughts and shameful deeds

20. They worship idols, practice witchcraft, hate others, and are hard to get along with. People become jealous, angry and selfish. They not only argue and cause trouble, but they are

21. envious. They get drunk, carry on at wild parties, and do other evil things as well. I told you beforem and I'm telling you again: No one who does these things will share in the blessings of God's kingdom

22. God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful,

23. gentle and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways.

24. And because we belong to Christ Jesus, we have killed our selfish feelings and desires,

25. God's Spirit has given us life, and so we should follow the Spirit.

26. But don't be conceited or make others jealous by claiming to be better than they are.

Now, I can really boldly tell that I have the Holy Spirit in me and it speaks to me. It was definitely the devil's job just now for putting thoughts in me. Sorry, you have lost, of Mr S.A. Tan HAHA!

And one thing is, this chapter really speaks and I know what I'm supposed to do now. I'm really far away from what I should be but I believe its not a one-night thing. He's changing me, one step at a time.

Thank You, Lord.

I'm In Awe of You.

Was dining with Agnes just now at EuroDeli @ Damansara Kim. The food, the ambience -- I would think they deserve 8.5/10 (they deserve more, but definitely everything would need room for improvement)

We were talking bout camps and everything and suddenly Agnes said, "You'll make a very good doctor"

I personally think that I'd make a better teacher in relating science and medicine to people around me. I love sharing and I bet you can feel my passion and enthusiasm when it comes to talking Science.

Anyway, as I was sharing bout the satisfaction we get when our friends receive the knowledge and how they relate it in their life, applying it and see facts becoming alive (not just for the sake of memorizing).

You know, most scientists are atheists. They don't believe in God. They only believe in proofs, and believing the existence of God without seeing them would be a difficult thing for them and almost impossible.

To them, there must always be a law or theory behind every phenomenon, supporting them with proof but how do one explain bout the disappearance of cancer tumours in last stage patients?

How do one explain when the blind without a retina can see?
How do one explain when a deaf man without the three ear bones (no vibration) started hearing?
How do one explain when a lame man can walk?
How do one explain when the sick people got healed when hands were laid on them?
How do one explain when dead people, died for 3 days were raised and going around sharing the good news?

How do one explain all these? When natural power says cannot, supernatural power will take over. As easy as that, as long as we believe.

You know, the more I study bout human, the more I'm amazed by God? Imagine, it took the scientists good 10 years to identify and complete mapping the entire Human Genome when God carefully created them? How all these genes with the different codings actually give rise to different unique person with different phenotype and God created each person carefully and wonderfully and uniquely and at the end of the creation, He'd say, "This is beautiful"

The more I study bout which gene, or how the apostopsis (programmed cell death) between my fingers was done so that my hand can hold things. Just imagine all our fingers were stuck together as one hand and they were not separated, I cannot even type all these out on this keyboard by allowing my fingers to dance on the keyboard, what more stretching one finger from another on the guitar frets to produce music? If not for the apoptosis that God has already thought of at his creation process.

You know, the more I study how each chamber of the heart functions, how it controls (ECG etc) the speed and amount of the blood flow throughout our body, or the more I study bout nephron and how they only allow certain solutes to pass through the collecting ducts so that no unnecessary water loss happens, or when we study how the liver controls the whole body's metabolism... take into consideration how God carefully put all these together and at the end of the creation, all he said was "This is beautiful"

The more I study bout all these, the smaller I feel.
The more I study, the more I know bout Him
The more I study, the more I'm amazed by Him.
The more I study, the smaller I become.

I can only stand in awe of You, the maker of all things.

M&Ms

Do you know why M&Ms melt in your mouth and not in your hands?

Actually that's not only true to M&Ms but all (pure) chocolates generally. Only M&Ms applies science to its slogan.

The reason behind it is because chocolates' melting point is 370C. In your hands, the temperature is still below 370C and they will not melt yet unless you grab it in your palm for a while and this causes the heat energy from your body (370C) to be transferred to the chocolates and melt them. So that also explains why sometimes M&Ms do melt in your hands eh

I'm So Sorry, Auntie Kamariah!

Just a brief intro, my left-handside neighbour are Malays while my right-handside neighbour are angmohs. My Malay neighbour loves hosting jamuan and I always see tents pitched up at their house compound.

Just two days back, I saw the tents again. Mom told me this time its not a jamuan but my neighbour's wife passed away in an accident. The accident took place at 4am in the morning. Being a Muslim, one needs to be buried before the sun sets. Its something unexpected and just imagine, my neighbour losts his wife and the kids lost their mom just overnight. Yesterday you see her, today you don't. At least if diseases, we can tell how long one still have and we can make the best out of the remaining time but accidents, no. It's so sad, isn't it?

That day in steamboat I was just telling Juvee that the worst part was that my neighbour hasn't known Jesus yet! The bible tells us that Jesus is THE ONLY way, truth and life!

Just imagine this scenario.... "on the way to hell"

Neighbour: Hey, where are you taking me to? I thought I'm going to heaven?

Angel: I'm sorry but your name is not listed in the Book of Life.

Neighbour: Book of Life? What's that? I thought Islam said that we can get to heaven?

Angel: I'm so sorry to tell you but Jesus is the only way to heaven. So, you can't come in.

Neighbour: But but, no one tells me bout Jesus! Even my neighbour didn't tell me and they call themselves Christians! And I invite them over for rendang during Raya. Pfft! Can you please give me one more chance so that I can tell my family about the Book of Life and Jesus?

Angel: Well, I afraid you can't. Let's hope and keep our fingers crossed that your neighbour will do their part...

O.O omg now I feel so bad. Sometimes its not that they don't want to know bout Jesus, but they don't have the chance to know Him since nobody shares with them. It's so sad.

I'm so sorry, Auntie Kamariah! :(

Four Months.

Thanks to Minghui, I decided to pull out my driving license from my wallet and check when's the next time should I go and renew my driving license. And to my horror, I'm late by 4 months!

yes, 4 months.

This also means that I've been driving illegally for 4 months now and I really thank God that no police had stopped me so far to ask for my license. And I've been driving to and from uni, church practices and meetings and all and not forgetting, cny visitings!

Look, I drove the car perfectly fine without any fear of license being checked for the past 4 months until I know that my license has expired. And the fear of driving without license is there.

Thats what you call the consciousness.

The same goes for The Law and The Grace. Its up to our mind to set its focus on. Its either we're self-conscious or Christ-conscious.

The former will lead to fear of being penalised and hence fear of God but the latter will lead to unending love and cause you to fall more in love with Him. The former will draw you away from God but the latter will draw you closer to God.

SO yeah, maybe its a worth-thinking question? How have we been? :)

Maybe Uh?

I was conversing with Amanda just now and I found out that its true that most people don't really apply what they've studied. I mean, who'd actually apply things we studied like algebra or differentiation or calculus in our daily lives right? Maybe only the engineers do.

But isn't life all about Science? Our everyday life will definitely be consists of Biology, Physics and Chemistry mixed altogether that we cannot even make a distinct separation between these. Life itself is Science! Agree?

Manda feels that I'm a thinker. Maybe I am. Like for example, who bother thinking why would the sound of water become softer as they fill up the water bottle? Well, a weirdo like me do! That's because there are lesser (air) space for the air molecules in the water bottle to vibrate as the water fills up the water bottle hence giving a lower amplitude?

Ronnie once asked me why will there be blue-black. Is it because the cells of that bruised part died? The answer is no.

I don't know how true is it but I personally think its because when we bruise ourselves, the blood vessels of the bruised area will rupture and caused them (the blood) to leak into our tissue under the skin (the blue-black is actually the colour of our blood under the skin). And usually the blood will clot together forming a large clot under the skin. The macrophages of our white blood cells will detect the antigen of these foreign particles (blood under the tissue) and will usually clear these 'foreign particles' up. It will heal on its own within a few days/weeks (depends on the individual).

If you notice, the olden days people don't need to study Immunology to learn bout the macrophages and antigens and whatnot. They just rub the bruise with some force in order to heal faster. Its true you know. Reasons? When they rub it, the blood under the skin will not clot together as one huge blood clot. They will be more evenly spread providing a larger surface area:volume ratio so that more macrophages can do the work at one point of time (increased rate of reaction!). Hence heal faster la.

I don't think any textbooks will tell you the process of bruising or how's the process of getting rid of the blue-blacks but its all application. Interesting eh?

Maybe from now on, you'd like to think bout them? It's interesting la. The more I learn or apply, the more I'm in awe of God because He's the creator of all these things!

Think bout it :)

Dream Big!

Today in marketing lecture, Dr Ting made each one of us write down our dream(s) on a piece of paper. He said, one who doesn't have a dream is almost lifeless because we have nothing to work towards too. We don't have the motivation, we don't have a particular aim in lives.

It's true. For once, I actually agree with him. I pondered for a moment before writing down my dream.

"Touch every lives that I meet"

Sounds impossible eh? I know for now I'm not even 1% there yet, and I can't do anything near there with my own strength. But I believe with God's strength and love, I can.

What bout you? What's your dream in your life? Maybe you have never thought of it before but what do you hope to see in the end of your life when you look back? What do you wish to achieve?

Dream big and work towards it hand-in-hand with God.

Humility.

To me, the most important essence to be a good musician is not the talent, but the humility, the teachable spirit and availability.

Talent is a gift --- a gift is something that is given for free and you don't work for it. But this talent will not amount to anything if its used for glorifying one-self like, "Aiya, don't need practise la. I'm already so good with my guitar playing" or "I'm better than him" kinda attitude? I actually beh tahan this kind one lor, but nevertheless..

I like how this article puts it. Its like, so true! It speaks about the danger of pride. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these to condemn anyone here.

The truth is we were all sinners and we're borned with sinful nature. Hence, pride would come in but thank God for Jesus. God loves sinners (us) but he hates sin. With Jesus' perfect and complete work on the cross, we're all redeemed. We're sinless, so to speak. We're made righteous by His shed blood, not by our own works but by His saving grace.

The major problem is that most of us didn't notice the pride in us. It takes another to see it, and usually people will not tell us right? Like, who will tell? Unless if you're really close to that person la.

Following is an excerpt from the mentioned article.

In fact, the pride itself will cause the person to be brought down. Many times, God does not need to humble a person, because through pride, the person will place themselves in a position where they will fall. When we are full of pride, we think we are better than others are, incapable of being wrong, even incapable of sin. That is the first step in the trap Satan has constructed for the proud.

"A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit"

Prov:29:23

A proud person is like a blind man; although there may be a great hole in the road before him, he can't see it. Too often, it isn't until that person falls into the hole that they realize there is anything wrong.

Pride also brings about contention and causes people to put others down. I don't know how many times I have heard a believer, or even a minister, put down another for doing something they have done themselves.

Sounds familiar? Believe me or not, I've seen alot of them.

One of the great blessings of being truly humble is that a humble heart is one that God can work with. God can not only do things in the life of that person, but through them as well. A truly humble heart is always open to God and to His Word.

Many believers who are living in pride don't realize the blessings that they are losing. They think they are doing fine, serving the Lord, and accomplishing His will. However, they are blind to their own problems and to what God wants to do in their heart.

"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted"
Matthew 23:12; Luke 14:11; 18:14

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up"
James 4:10

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time"
1 Peter 5:6

Excellent way of putting them. Its a good read and you should read it for more examples. It's not like suddenly I realise that I have too much pride in me or whatsoever (I won't know, you see, unless I fall, haha!) but it just dawned on me that I need to pick this vocab up -- humility.

"Lord, now I come before You with a humble heart. I pray that You'll continue to teach and mould me into the person You want me to be. Lord, teach me how to be humble. I pray that not my will but Yours be done and Your Name will be lifted and glorified. Continue to use me as Your humble vessel in this school so that Your amazing love can reach them. In Jesus' mighty name, amen."

Another amazing moment with Dr Emily just now. I'm obsessed, how la? (And Amelia actually finds it gross. Ishh!)

Which one?

There are both sides to everything in our lives. It all depends on how we perceive it. For example, you prolly perceive the photo above as a sunrise. But it could also be a sunset.

As for me, I see it as a sunset now.

All things.

Had a great time with xuewen yday.

She always asks me things that I never thought of and its she, who always makes me realize things and hence revelations. I thank God for her.

Anyway.

Does thing..

  1. Happens for a reason?

  2. (or) pure co-incidents?

I personally believe its the former. Don't you think so too?

"And we know that God causes ALL THINGS to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose"
-Romans 8:28

Oh wow. I know I can always count on her. She's a great musician! And did I say that she's a great musician? She is laaa.. (Seriously! I stress!)

And today I learned a new chord (taught by Japheth though)!

Monash CF worship, I hope I'm ready!

---

Went for badminton yesterday with Xuewen and Yiwei. It was a good game I must say!

Either I didn't do my warmups and cooldowns properly or have I exerted too much energy that my one sided (only the right side) muscles are fatigue now.

It feels so weird when the body divides itself symmetrically (like really really half?). The muscles of my right forearm, shoulder, upper back and abit of my right gluteus maximus (a nicer way to say buttock's muscle!) doesn't feel as good as those on the left but nonetheless, they should be alright!

I don't know if you notice these but I personally feel that the way our body works very awesome la. Everytime whenever I flip the pages of Anatomy, Pharmacology, Pathology and Physiology notes, He never fail to amaze me with His masterpiece.

As you all know, EVERY individual has his own unique fingerprint right? It's so amazing to think that He came out with millions unique copies of fingerprint everyday (millions of babies are borned everyday) and no plagiarism were done for these fingerprints! How awesome!

I'm pretty sure if we were supposed to come out with so many fingerprint designs everyday, we would have plagiarized some dead old man's fingerprint somewhere across the continent for each newborn baby because we know plagiarism checker cannot detect them *insert evil laughter* but our Daddy's NOT in-line with the plagiarism business. Unlike us students hurhurr. He deserves more wows for these already.

Oh well, that was just the physical properties.

Now I believe you won't want to go into every gene that He has came out with when there are gazillion of unique genes involved in every species. It took so many genius scientists from all over the world for a good 13 years just to learn and to complete the Human Genome Project of only a single species i.e. the homosapiens.

What about other species? And the job of those great scientists for that 13 years were just to study the genes in a human, now what about the credit to the Creator and Compiler of all these genes? Many wows!

Again, I could only stand in awe of You.

Wisdom.

"People closes to you hurts you the most!" (Chua, 2008).

I saw this on Ann Gee's pm and come to think bout it, quite true uh. But why?

"that's because you have a higher expectation of those that are close to you than those kelefeh"
-kaiyuuen-

"you love them, that's why you will feel hurt :) If people that you're not close to, you won't even bother bout it."
-jiawen-

Very true. Well, that sums it all. Not really, but quite a big portion of it la.

---

I have Haematology test coming up this Monday. I have to complete my entire Haematology textbook (that sums up to 325 pages, OMG!) to be really prepared for this test.

325 pages? I think I'll prolly put a decimal point in between la, I'll read 32.5 pages maybe? Battling against time.

Whoa, study also wanna bargain.

Anyway, now I'm thankful for paying attention in the lectures while jotting notes. It's really time saving as I don't feel the need of going through the entire book.

Photobucket

It's coming to an end of week 3 in school now. And I'm still surviving! So far so good. Now, prolly I've passed that 2 weeks of warm warm chicken dung probation period with flying colours and I'm upgraded to chicken dung's level! Just kidding.

Nothing is impossible because Mun Khea is serving a God of All Possibility! Nothing is too big for Him.

Just an encouragement, I shall leave you my favourite line: "If MK can do it, YOU CAN DO BETTER!"

This week is gonna be an exciting week!

If you took note the time I started writing this entry, yeah that's the time I just woke up from my nap. Napped right after dinner! Piggy? Oh, you can say that again.

I still don't know what zapped all my energy away. Nonetheless, this week is gonna be an exciting week!

Some of you asked, "Why so?"

The reason is simple. I just wanna proclaim it and I know my words have power and hence, it'll be great.

---

I'm very excited 'bout what You're gonna do in my life.
I can't wait to see You face-to-face again.
Just a glimpse of Your glory is all I need.
I know just a slight touch from You will change my life.

I just can't wait!

Could it be a prophecy?

Haven't been chatting with people that I used to chat with.
Everyone seems busy, everyone seems so distanced.

Sigh.

---

This morning, I woke up with a dream.

I dreamt that Harvest Youth came out with a second service.
They're on Friday afternoons.

In that dream, I was praying with a few leaders on a Friday morning. Then, Mun Wah came up to me.

"Jie, get ready for youth service soon"

"Huh? Service? What service?"

"You don't know meh? Other than our usual Saturday youth services, now Friday afternoon also got services edi"

So many unfamiliar faces (which is very good). Actually I don't know anyone there.

Most are schooling kids. As in, secondary school kids?
A new worship team altogether. The drummer was a girl, an Indian girl, I think.

Sher Ri was the worship leader that day. The worship service was about to start. Then she asked me to help her with guitar.

Instead, I played the bass guitar instead of my usual semi-acoustic guitar. I don't know why. Dreams, maybe?

But it was a great time worshipping God.

Then Pastor Alan shared with us from his seat. He doesn't sit at his usual front seat, he sits somewhere in the middle with the rest of the crowd. He's like one of us. He shares the Word with his heart.

Everyone was very blessed. It was a big crowd. And everyone yearned more for Him.

Then I was awaken by a text message from Sher Ri.

Was it merely a dream? An unfulfilled desire? Or is it a prophecy?

Where the younger generations rise up and take their place.

Our usual Saturday evening's service got so filled up that there isn't any more spaces for the new ones. That will be a service for the young adults or college students like us.

The secondary school students are all so hungry for Him.

Because only Jesus, the living bread can satisfy us. Amen?

---

The sudden craving.

Badminton, anyone?

Blessed are the desperate.

mk says: Joy, seriously la, I don't know what's happening to me and I think I really need Him even more now.

mk says: I'm seriously really very superbly desperately for Him

Where I'm closest to heaven (!) says: that's good

Where I'm closest to heaven (!) says: God only works when you're hungry

mk says: good?

mk says: owhh

mk says: coz He's a good cook?

Where I'm closest to heaven (!) says: and when you're hungry you appreciate food more

mk says: (okay thats lame)

---

We stayed up till 4+ in the morning chatting. I do not understand why this always happen on Saturday nights when we should sleep early so that we can wake up early for church the next day. Nevertheless, I could wake up and wasn't sleepy in church at all. I was pretty excited for church. I was anticipating for something.

I'm at a stage when am very desperate for His touch once again and to fill my i-dont-know-how-to-describe feeling. Basically, I'm pretty discouraged and not motivated with anything. I don't exactly know what's the thing in me but all I know is that I need Him. Right now.

God knows our needs. He knows that I'm desperate for Him. But He will not just *poof* and grant whatever I want. He wants us to ask for it and He will answer us according to His time and His will. It was last night when I told Joy and Eunice that I'm desperate for Him but nothing will happen if I go on 'wishing that God could do this and that..'

I'm sure God heard our conversation over MSN last night but today, I took the extra mile. I told Him personally, "Jesus, I'm desperate for You. I need You now. All I need is just a word from You and I know everything will be different. I surrender this life to You and You can take full control."

There's this sense of peace and comfort right away. Tears ran down my cheeks as if there was some leakage in my tears gland. I could not ask for more. All these took place before the worship service. It was a great time meeting with Him during worship session where we all gave our all once again. Pastor David Ramayah preached and guess what, the message spoke directly to my situation (in some way). More like a revelation? It may sound general to everyone but God definitely spoke to the situation I'm in and He even tell me what I should do bout it. I'm lifted and it was a great revelation. I was filled with awe and I know He is with me at all times!

Jeremiah 33:3
"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

What is life all about? Sometimes I really feel I don't belonged here. I'm like so out of place and I'll just do what I can do.

Why?

Okay, ain't being emo.

I think I know why.

Cause my life on earth is like my visa, my working permit here on earth. It's just temporary.

When I'm done with what I have to do or when my visa expires, I will go back to where I belong.

Heaven, that's my home, that's where I belong.

(I know if this is my exam question and Amelia as my examiner, she would give me 100% for this answer. Right Amy?)
